Field Trip: Point Reyes National SeashoreDate: Saturday June 03, 2023Time: 8:00 AMPt. Reyes is one of the best stopovers on the West Coast in the Spring & Fall for migrating passerines. Come, join us to explore some of Pt. Reyes’ best locations on the Outer Point. (NSAS Event) Details:Leader: Mark Stephenson Description: Pt. Reyes is one of the best stopovers on the West Coast in the Spring & Fall for migrating passerines. Come, join us to explore some of Pt. Reyes’ best locations on the Outer Point. We will visit the Lighthouse Point, Chimney Rock/Fish Docks, Nunez & Mendoza Ranches and RCA as well as possible inland locations like White House Pool, based on time and the most recent bird sightings. June is one of the best times for rare Eastern migrants. Species such as Prairie, Black & White, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, and Bay-breasted Warblers have been known to show up at this time along with a number of uncommon flycatchers such as Hammonds, Least and Dusky, Sparrows such as Grasshopper, Brewers & Clay-colored, as well as late Western Migrants. We’ll bird all day as long as the birds keep coming and as long as participants would like. Directions: From Napa take Highway 12 then Highway 116 to Petaluma. Highway 116 becomes Lakeville St. as you drive under the Highway 101 overpass. Proceed on Lakeville St. for less than a mile to East “D” St., take a left onto East “D” St. Continue on “D” St. west toward Pt. Reyes Station. Outside of Petaluma “D” St. becomes Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Rd. Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Rd. dead ends at Highway 1, turn left toward Pt. Reyes station. Follow Highway through Pt. Reyes Station then about 1/3 mile out of town turn right onto Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Stay on Sir Francis Drake Blvd for about 20 miles to the parking lot at the lighthouse. What to bring: Spring has changeable weather so please dress accordingly, binoculars, spotting scope (if you have one), LUNCH, snacks, water. Health & Safety: NSAS requests that all participants be vaccinated for COVID-19, with updated boosters. All participants will sign a Field Trip Waiver and Waiver of Liability. Group Size: Fifteen. Napa Solano Members have preference. If there is space, then non-NSAS members are welcome.
