Humboldt Bay, Saturday, October 15th - Sunday, October 16th
On this two-day birding trip we will spend Saturday with Ken around Humboldt Bay, including the Arcata Marsh, Mad River, bottomland pastures, rocky shoreline and Eel River watersheds. Expect a number of shorebirds, various waterfowl species, rock coast shorebirds, and various passerines. Sunday birding will be decided by the group as we head home. Leader: Ken Burton – Well known birding expert of Humboldt County. Author of “A Birding Guide to Humboldt County.” Ken is a local resident, past president of the local Audubon Chapter, has been birding since 1981 and professionally since 1987. Description: On this two-day birding trip we will spend Saturday with Ken around Humboldt Bay, including the Arcata Marsh, Mad River, bottomland pastures, rocky shoreline and Eel River watersheds. Expect a number of shorebirds, various waterfowl species, rock coast shorebirds, and various passerines. Sunday birding will be decided by the group as we head home.

Directions: 7:30 AM, October 15, 2022, at Pepper’s Restaurant, Arcata, 5000 Valley W. Blvd., Arcata CA. Pepper’s is located in the Valley West Shopping Center, just north of the junction of Highway 101 & Highway 299.

Accommodations There are several motels in the Valley West area with varying prices. Lodging is also available in Arcata and Eureka (about 8 miles south).

What to Bring It’s October, one of the nicest months of the year in Humboldt, but it’s also Humboldt County, so be prepared for sunny pleasant temperatures or rain. LUNCH: We will not be stopping for lunch so please bring a lunch (Ray’s Food Place is a good market for lunch preparation). Hat, binoculars, spotting scope if you have one, and an interest in birding.
