Field Trip: Dover Park Heron and Egret Rookery

Date: Sunday June 06, 2021

Time: 10:00 AM

The Heron and Egret Project is part of a collaborative effort by Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR) and the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO) to monitor colonially nesting herons and egrets in the San Francisco Bay Area. (NSAS Event)

Details:

Leader: Ron Brown Description: Ron is the volunteer monitor of the Dover Park rookery and he has offered to show us his bird families. There are 2 trees with nests of Snowy Egrets and Black Crowned Night Herons. There may also be Cattle Egrets. The colony should be in full swing and it is a cacophony of sights and sounds (smells also). There should be chicks, too. If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit a rookery during the nesting season, it is an amazing sight!

Bring binoculars and spotting scope if you have one.

No RSVP necessary. Just show up between 10 and 12, and prepare to be entertained. Ron can answer any questions you may have about the birds.

If you have questions, you can email Wendy beehaven2@comcast.net Directions: Dover Park, 800 East Travis Blvd., Fairfield
