Field Trip: Mono Lake - Two day trip

Join us for a two-day, fall birding field trip to the eastern Sierra Nevada at Mono Lake on September 19 & 20. (NSAS Event)

Details:

Leader: Bartshe Miller, Education Director, The Mono Lake Committee

Description: Saturday we will explore areas around the lake and upland areas nearby, led by the education director of The Mono Lake Committee. Birding on Sunday will be decided among the group, depending on where we went on Saturday.

Birds we might see include horned grebes, eared grebe, white pelican, white-faced ibis, black-crowned night heron, common snipe, Wilson’s phalarope, red-necked phalarope, California gull, common nighthawk, Vaux’s swift, white-throated swift, Say’s phoebe, horned lark, pinyon jay, Clark’s nutcracker, black-billed magpie, Townsend’s solitaire, American pipit, green-tailed towhee, and yellow-headed blackbird.

The trip is limited to 12 people. Please RSVP by September 8, 2015.

Directions: Meet at 8:00 a.m. on September 19 at the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore, Highway 395 and Third St., Lee Vining, Ca.

Things to Bring: Hat, good walking shoes (although we will be traveling mostly by car), water, sun screen, chap stick for lips (humidity is very low and harsh), snacks. On Saturday we will stop and buy lunch.
