Field Trip: Newell Open SpaceDate: Friday March 13, 2015Time: 8:00 AMWeekly Friday trip (NSAS Event) Details:Leader: Murray Berner Description: One more try at Newell Open Space Preserve, a hike up to the Newell Loop trail. By mid-way along, we will be seeing eagles, hawks and harriers. Various sparrows, jays, finches and woodpeckers. There will be items of both botanical and lepidopterial interest. I'm not sure if we'll actually cover the full 5-mile loop or just a significant section thereof. Napa carpool leaves from the east side of Sweeney's sport shop in Riverpark shopping center at 8:00am. Riverpark is off Imola Ave between Jefferson and Coombs. On your own, the Newell parking lot is at the northern dead end of Newell Drive in American Canyon. From Hwy 29, turn east onto Donaldson Way at the ARCO station. Napa carpool will be there about 8:30. Do not forget to carry water. There is a restroom both at the parking lot and along the trail. Read more about these trips on the Friday Bird Walks page. |
