Field Trip: Newell PreserveDate: Friday July 25, 2014Time: 7:30 AMWeekly Friday trip (NSAS Event) Details:Leader: Murray Berner Description: If you missed Newell Preserve a few weeks ago, we're going there again and it will be great. Streamside willow, live oak groves and rolling grassland have sparrows, orioles and raptors. Say's Phoebe is nesting there this summer. Blue Grosbeak and Hooded Oriole have been seen by many in the past couple of weeks. This is a mostly level stroll on recently 'groomed' trails. We'll go as far up into the preserve as time and ambition allow. Bring water. There are facilities along the trail. Napa carpool departs at 7:30 am from the east side of Sweeney's Sport shop in Riverpark shopping center. Riverpark is on Imola Ave between Jefferson and Coombs. On your own, the Newell trail head is at the northern dead end of Newell Drive just beyond the intersection with Donaldson Way in American Canyon. There is an Arco filling station at the corner of Donaldson and Hwy 29. Napa carpool will be there before 8:00 am. Read more about these trips on the Friday Bird Walks page. |
