Pre-trip Description: The gentle slopes of Carneros are known for vineyards, but the southern base of these rolling hills is notable for tidal marsh, grassland, pastures and ephemeral freshwater wetlands teeming with waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, rails and songbirds. This winter 22 species of waterfowl and 15 species of raptor have been seen in the area. Songbirds include Loggerhead Shrike, Horned Lark, and perhaps some early arriving swallows. A Clay-colored Sparrow is wintering in the area. We will take short walks at each of the best patches of habitat. Walking will be on trails (likely muddy or wet); perhaps a little on railroad tracks. Trip will conclude around 2 pm. Bring food and drink. Steady rain cancels.

Directions: Meet at the Napa carpool location.
